Our Story
Stuart and Jennifer met when he gave her a very short and stylish haircut many years ago. They became good friends, and Jennifer would refer all of her friends to Stuart.
She saw how much fun and creativity he had and was inspired to go back to Maryland for beauty school. When she returned to Hawaii, they began dating and knew they wanted to open their own salon.
The name Hairspray Salon came from the John Waters movie Hairspray that was filmed in Baltimore, Maryland.
Stuart and Jennifer's first hair salon was above Saigon's Vietnamese Restaurant on Waialae Ave, and they were there for 8 years. During this time, they got married and had a son. Hairspray Salon Hawaii has been in the current Koko Head Ave location since 2000.
